Brief Desciption

ACM provides the computing field’s premier Digital Library and serves its members and the computing profession with leading-edge publications, conferences, and career resources.It is a not-for-profit professional membership group. Its membership is more than 100,000 as of 2011. Its headquarters are in New York.

BVPACM Student Chapter, established in May, 2013 is an enthusiastic student wing that organizes various seminars and workshops on different domains by speakers who are well known in their area. These talks give students opportunities to learn about advanced research subjects. The Chapter organizes various technical events like Programing Contests, Technical quizzes, Discussions, etc.


 

Latest Events Conducted

 

1.  Ignite Your Brain

ACM BVP marked the beginning of 2014-15 session on 13th August, 2014 with an event true to our essence, Ignite Your Brain, a guide to writing research paper. A comprehensive lecture conducted by our mentors and the PhD scholars, Associate Professor Ms. Narina Thakur and Assistant Professor Mr. Gaurav Indra enlightened the minds of future engineers about the know-how’s of research and publication.

 

2.  Microsoft Internship Examination Discussion

For reaching the pinnacle of success, a Discussion on Microsoft Internship Examination was conducted by the selected candidates of Microsoft Internship Programme 2014, Ms. Sakshi Rungta and Mr. Anmol Ahuja. The step by step procedure of the recruitment, format of question paper, probable areas and questions were discussed in detail with the third year students aspiring to grab the dream opportunity as this.

 

3.  Introduction to Artificial Intelligence

Introduction to Artificial Intelligence was the next event in the pipeline for all those students aiming for higher studies in the field of AI. The event was conducted by our proud alumni and expert in this field, Mr. Anupam Guha, a PhD scholar at University of Maryland, U.S. and an M.S. in Computer Science from Georgia Tech University who also guided us for further studies abroad.

 

4.  Frosh Welcome

With Frosh Welcome on 4th September, 2014, we warmly welcomed our dear freshers to Association for Computing Machinery and ACM BVP Student Chapter. The motto of the event was “Get Involved, Get Connected, Get a Head Start!”  The event was aimed at establishing a comfort level between the freshers and the seniors, to throw adequate light on the proceedings of ACM and to encourage them to pursue research.

 

5.  Introductory Session on Matlab

An Introductory Session on Matlab was conducted in collaboration with Tevatron Technologies on 23rd September, 2014. The session was jointly addressed by Associate Professor, Mrs. Narina Thakur and our guest speaker who introduced us to innovative technical project ideas followed by a practical session on Matlab.

 

6.  BVEST’14

BVP ACM also organized an array of events in the annual technical fest of the college. We conducted a total of four events in BVEST’14 held on 28th and 29th of October, 2014. At Your Own Risk was an algorithm generating competition in which participants had to strike a balance between attendance and fun at college. Paint It Blue was a Photoshop competition that stirred the imagination of all by posing a challenge to create posters solely using the color blue.  Faux Research made them tickle their grey cells and present their innovative ideas in research to the world in a presentable manner. A tech-fest is incomplete without a coding competition and It’s Complicated presented that with a twist. In a nutshell, the events were a great success and made sure that the students had a great time too.

 

7.  CODUIZ

BVP ACM bid farewell to the year 2014 with CODUIZ, an online coding competition conducted on 23rd November, 2014 in association with the coding society of BVP IEEE, Codex. The event brought multitudes of mails swooping down our inbox and the winner was awarded with a cash prize.


 

FORTHCOMING EVENTS

 

1.Out of the box – Out of the box is a brain-storming event where a unique idea and the ability to express it well will be the key to winning. It largely focuses on startups in India, the main motive being to encourage aspiring entrepreneurs to generate fresh ideas, taking risks and grabbing the right opportunities essential to make it big in the corporate world. It will consist of a panel of three successful and inspiring personalities to judge and interact with the participants. 

 

2.Get with Git – Github is an online haven for coders from allover the world to share codes and improve themselves. This event will be a workshop, where the participants will be taught how to use github, along with highlighting its importance in the field of CSE and IT.
